Thank goodness for...

Peet's Coffee. I've never really been a brew-at-home coffee drinker because, somehow, I always end up with a stomach ache. When I lived in Boston, I consumed a decent amount of coffee because there was a Starbucks on every corner (there are four located on BU's campus). However, not even Starbucks is that great. They do an awful job with making sure the espresso and foam are just right (I used to be a barista at a little gourmet chocolaterie in the Hotel Commonwealth, so I know what should be goin' down). I understand that they get a ton of traffic and there's just not enough time to make sure everything's perfect, but hey, I don't want a slightly sour latté.

Anyway, the other week, Peet's Coffee came into my life because it was on sale ($2 off!) at the grocery store. I bought the Italian roast, and it's the best home-brewed coffee I've ever tasted. Definitely worth the extra few dollars! I chose to make it the subject of this post because work is just killing me! I fell asleep on the living room floor yesterday for about 20 minutes. When I woke up, BB was smiling and sitting next to me WITHOUT ANY PANTS ON. I'm lucky nothing bad happened, but I can't afford to be narcoleptic. I'm glad I have my job, but it's been a challenge to juggle this full-time job and my full-time job as a MOM. It's different when you work at an office than when you work at home with the baby right there. In the latter case, you're doing two jobs simultaneously. Thank you, Peet's, for making my life ever so slightly easier. Please help me stay awake!

Nice, soothing, hot baths. BB is starting to get more stubborn and smart. When we went to put her to bed last night, she pushed her bottle away repeatedly and stood up in her crib. Why? Because she prefers being held before she sleeps. Or she would rather sleep in our bed between Dave and me. I didn't like this behavior, so all this wasn't going to happen on my watch. I left her in bed without the lights on, figuring she would cry it out in about 10-15 minutes. She lasted a whole hour, and most of the time she was screaming at the top of her lungs. It was stressful and exhausting to sit in the next room and listen to all of this. I barely got any work done.
She eventually fell asleep and I immediately drew a bath -- WITH bubbles, no lights, extra candles, A-L-O-N-E! I can't remember the last time I took a bath, but I should definitely do it more often. It was pure and simple ME time, which hardly ever happens, so it was gloooorious and so relaxing!
Anyway, all the trouble paid off because she is starting to get the picture. She resisted when I put her in bed, but this time she barely cried for 10 minutes. YES! What a smart baby!

P.S. I wish my bathroom looked like this.

This past week can be described in one word (if it is a word): UGH. Things with work got backed up last weekend and I've spent this week attempting to catch up. I pulled an all-nighter Wednesday night (something I thought I would never have to do ever again after college) and went to bed at 3:30am last night. I have no energy left, but hopefully I'll have a chance to relax a little this weekend.

This time around, I have to say thank goodness for BB's toy monkey. We simply call him "Monkey" and he is the stuffed animal du jour. He definitely brings out the affectionate side of BB. Ask her, "Where's Monkey?" and she immediately searches the room until she's found him. Ask her to kiss Monkey (in Chinese) and she hugs and smooches him. Why am I glad Monkey is around? Whenever I was busy with work and needed to distract BB, Monkey was there to receive her kisses. Thank goodness, too, for Andrew and Alison who bought Monkey for BB's birthday! I'll try to come back soon and write some more. Time to change a diaper!

Thank goodness for...

I wanted to create a weekly themed post for some time but couldn't think of anything original. After this past week, I finally came up with something. I've been so busy with work and I couldn't have gotten through the past week and a half without Dave. He gladly took the role of mommy and spent his Spring Break changing all the diapers and feeding BB all her meals. I was definitely impressed and blown away. So each Friday, I'm going to (try to) write about something or someone that got me through the week. Sound good?
